Lemurian Quartz: Trend or Truth?

Lemurian Quartz: Trend or Truth?

Oh dear—another crystal trend, I thought! If there’s one thing I’m not, it’s someone who gets caught up in the latest crystal craze. But, me being me, I had to look into it a bit more.

Now, let’s be real—“Lemurian Quartz” is a marketing name. That’s something I’ve known for a while. But interestingly, a lot of people in the metaphysical world really feel drawn to it. So, what’s going on here?

Lemurian Quartz crystals generally come from Brazil. They tend to be super clear, long, and often have a laser-point shape, which makes them look quite striking. One of the key features people use to identify Lemurian Quartz is the presence of horizontal striations, or what some call “barcodes,” along the sides of the crystal. If you can’t quite see the lines, run your fingernail down the crystal—you’ll usually feel little ridges.

Some folks claim that these crystals only form in one location on Earth, but that’s not entirely accurate. Quartz with similar striations can be found in many places around the world. So if you’re after a genuine Lemurian, ask where it’s from. If it’s Brazilian, then yes—it likely fits the traditional Lemurian profile.

Also, Lemurian Quartz isn’t limited to just clear quartz. You can find it in Smoky and Tangerine Quartz too. These varieties are a little harder to come by, but they are out there.

The name “Lemurian” comes from Lemuria, a mythical lost land said to have existed before Atlantis in the South Pacific. The story goes that Lemurians were advanced, highly spiritual beings, and that they encoded their knowledge into these crystals before their civilization disappeared. Whether or not you believe this lore is up to you—it’s certainly speculative. But from an energy perspective, there’s something to be said for these crystals.

Quartz is known as an energy amplifier, and when you combine that with the laser-like formation of many Lemurian points, you get a crystal that’s brilliant for directional energy work. That’s a win in my books, regardless of the name attached to it. And because of this, Lemurian Quartz makes an excellent pendulum. I’ve sold quite a few Lemurian pendants as pendulums over the years, and they work really well.

Healers—especially those who practice Reiki, hands-on healing, or use crystal layouts—love Lemurian Quartz for its energetic focus. It’s also great for meditation and tuning into higher guidance. Still, I want to point out that you can absolutely do all of this with a regular quartz crystal. There are plenty of crystals out there that will do the job just as effectively—it all comes down to what works for you and what fits within your budget.

Lemurian Quartz is a fascinating crystal with a unique appearance and strong spiritual associations. Scientifically, it’s a variety of quartz with characteristic horizontal ridges, usually from Brazil. Metaphysically, it’s believed to promote intuition, inner peace, and connection to higher realms. It's also great for meditation, energy healing, gridding, and spiritual development—especially around the throat and crown chakras.

So, is it just hype? Maybe. But if it resonates with you, then it’s worth exploring. After all, crystals speak to each of us differently—and that’s part of the magic.
