Amazonite – The Calming Turquoise Toned Stone

Amazonite – The Calming Turquoise Toned Stone

Amazonite is one of those crystals that instantly catches the eye with its vibrant turquoise-green glow. Our Blissful Things collection features pieces mainly from Madagascar and South America, where some of the world’s most striking specimens are found. Whether you’re drawn to its colour, its soothing energy, or its deep geological story, Amazonite is a true crowd-pleaser.

Science & Structure

Amazonite is a variety of the feldspar mineral microcline with the chemical formula KAlSi₃O₈. Its rich blue-green hue comes from trace amounts of lead and water within the crystal lattice. This gemstone forms in granite and pegmatite veins and rates around 6–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it durable enough for jewellery yet soft enough to shape into cabochons, beads, or palm stones.

While many stones can fade with time, high-quality Amazonite keeps its colour beautifully when cared for—just avoid prolonged sun exposure and clean it gently with mild soap and water.

Colours & Variations

Classic Amazonite shows that dreamy turquoise to sea-foam green with delicate white streaks or grid-like patterns. Some pieces carry subtle shimmer, a result of the feldspar’s internal structure. You might also spot Amazonite mingling with smoky quartz, albite, or mica, creating natural combos that sparkle in the light.

A Touch of History

Despite the name, Amazonite isn’t actually found in the Amazon River basin. Early explorers simply thought the colour matched the lush greens of the rainforest. Ancient Egyptians carved Amazonite into amulets and jewelry; it’s said to have adorned the famous Mask of Tutankhamun and was treasured as a stone of courage and truth.

Metaphysical Magic

In crystal healing circles, Amazonite is known as a stone of harmony and balance. It’s often linked with both the heart and throat chakras, encouraging honest communication, compassion, and emotional calm. Many people keep Amazonite nearby to ease stress, quiet the mind, and promote loving dialogue—perfect for busy homes or workplaces.

Modern-Day Uses

Thanks to its striking colour and gentle energy, Amazonite shines in both décor and jewellery. Polished slabs make beautiful display pieces, while beads and cabochons are favourites for pendants and bracelets. Some people place Amazonite on their desk to soften electromagnetic stress from computers or simply to bring a pop of oceanic colour to the room.

Kiwi Connection

While most of our Amazonite comes from Madagascar and South America, New Zealand collectors often trade and polish pieces sourced through the international gem market. To Shop our range of Amazonite, Click Here.
