Do Crystal Energies Clash?
A question I hear often is: “Do crystal energies clash? Can I wear certain stones together?”
Let’s be very honest—as long as you’re happy with what you’re doing, that’s what matters most. Everyone’s crystal journey is unique, and there’s no one “right” way to work with crystals.
Over my 40+ years of experience working with crystals, I’ve learned that personal comfort and intuition are the most important guides—more than rules or what anyone else says.
Are Some Crystals “Incompatible”?
You may have heard people say, for example, that Carnelian and Turquoise don’t go together. Honestly? That’s a bit like saying butter doesn’t belong on toast—it’s personal. It may not work for them, but it may not work for you or others.
In fact, Carnelian and Turquoise were often used together in ancient Egyptian times, showing that these combinations can absolutely work. It’s about what feels right to you, not what someone else says.
Bracelets, Necklaces & Wearing Crystals
Questions also come up about which hand to wear a bracelet on, or what you can or can’t wear together. Here’s the thing:
You might be left-handed, so wearing crystals on your right hand could feel better—or vice versa.
You might only have one arm, or you may simply prefer a particular hand.
If someone tells you that you can’t wear this with that, take a step back. Ask yourself: “Am I happy? Do I feel comfortable?” If yes, then there’s no problem. If you’re unsure, try it for a little while and see how you feel. If it doesn’t feel right, pop your crystals back on in a way that feels good to you.
Crystal Hardness – Care & Wear
Sometimes what people think of as “energy clashing” is actually just not considering crystal hardness.
For example, pairing a hard crystal bead like Amethyst with a super soft stone like Selenite can rub and wear down the softer stone over time. This isn’t a clash of energies—it’s just physical wear.
Selenite is probably too soft for jewelry that gets a lot of movement or friction.
Knowing the Mohs scale of hardness for your crystals can help you understand which stones can safely be paired in bracelets, necklaces, or other jewelry.
This knowledge also helps you look after your crystals better and keep them looking beautiful for longer.
Crystals Breaking, Falling, or Going Missing
Sometimes crystals break, fall, or go missing, and honestly—some things are unexplainable.
Accidents happen: for example, you might take off a jumper and a bracelet unknowingly rolls off your arm.
Necklaces can undo because the string has worn out, or the type of knot can untie itself. (Yes, I’ve seen this happen—so all the necklaces I sell are tied in a particular way for extra security.)
Sometimes the reason is physical and explainable, and sometimes it might come down to intuition or unexplainable energy.
The key is: a bit of everything is okay. Crystals are companions, not perfection—they support you, but life happens.
Wearing Crystals All the Time – Good or Bad?
Some people ask if it’s okay to wear crystals all the time. Again—it depends on you.
Sometimes a change is nice, to mix things up or explore new energy.
Working with crystals is about how you want to do it, not how others think you should.
Of course, cultural or personal reasons might mean you don’t take a necklace or bracelet off, and that’s okay too. Your journey, your rules.
Common Sense Comes First
While crystals can be amazing companions, practical considerations matter:
Workplaces: If a necklace or bracelet could cause a health or safety issue, don’t wear it.
Children: Avoid necklaces that could be choking hazards. Be careful with little climbers or anything that could get caught.
Wear & Tear: Crystals have different hardnesses. Treat them with care to keep your jewelry intact.
The Bottom Line
Crystal energy is personal. There are no hard rules, only what feels right for you. Mix and match, explore combinations, and trust your instincts. Understanding your crystals’ physical properties as well as their energetic qualities helps you care for them properly and wear them safely.
Crystals are tools, not rules—your journey is unique, and that’s exactly how it should be.
Over my 40+ years of experience, I’ve found that intuition, happiness, and comfort are the best guides when working with crystals—not strict rules or “energy clashes.”
