Not to be confused with Obsidian. Even tho they come from similar origins of being volcanic. Obsidian contains more silica and cools much quicker. Black Basalt has less silica and high in iron and magnesium. It also cools much more slowly and has a porphyritic structure.
There are some lovely, polished items coming out of Madagascar at the moment, so we do feel lucky to stock it.
