Fossil Weevil Nest
Measurements are approximate
5cm x 2.8cm x 2.5cm
The fossilized nests of the weevil Leptopius duponti, often called “fairy boots,” are found around the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Measuring approximately 5–6 cm, these nests date from the Holocene–Pleistocene periods. They feature a main opening with several smaller holes, marking the activity of the weevils during their pupal stage. These fascinating fossils make a unique display piece and offer a glimpse into the region's ecological history.
