Jet is a type of lignite, the lowest grade of coal, and is classified as a gemstone, though technically it is a mineraloid rather than a true mineral. Formed from ancient wood subjected to intense pressure over millions of years, jet has long been valued both scientifically and spiritually. Metaphysically, it is known as a grounding and protective stone, connected to the root chakra and believed to absorb negative energy while fostering a sense of safety, stability, and emotional resilience.
