Apache Tear Obsidian from New Zealand
From an old collection found in the North Island of New Zealand. Some pieces from older collections may still carry original labels, including on the surface of the stone, which is common from pre-digital times. When collections are broken up, original documentation is often lost, so exact locality is not recorded. A lovely and interesting piece for any Kiwi collection.

These Apache Tears are set in a white matrix, creating a striking contrast. They are priced per piece and selected at random when purchased. Please refer to the photo for size.
Apache Tear Obsidian is a naturally formed volcanic glass, created when molten lava cools rapidly, resulting in a smooth, deep black to smoky translucent stone (primarily silicon dioxide, SiO₂). Historically, it is linked to Native American legend—especially the Apache tribe—where these stones are said to represent the tears of grieving women, giving them a strong connection to sorrow, healing, and remembrance.
Metaphysically, Apache Tear is known as a gentle yet powerful protection and emotional healing stone, often used to absorb negative energy, ease grief, and support release during times of loss or transformation. Connected to the Root Chakra, it offers grounding, comfort, and strength, making it a beautiful companion for those working through emotional challenges or seeking calm, stabilising energy.
