Calcite is a widespread and versatile mineral composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), crystallizing in the trigonal system. It occurs in a wide range of colours—from clear and white to orange, green, blue, and red—depending on trace mineral content. With a Mohs hardness of 3, it’s relatively soft and often displays a characteristic rhombohedral cleavage and reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid by fizzing, due to its carbonate content. Scientifically important for its role in sedimentary rocks like limestone and marble, calcite also plays a role in biological processes, such as forming the shells of marine organisms.
Metaphysically, Calcite is known as a powerful energy amplifier and cleanser. It is believed to clear stagnant energies, elevate consciousness, and support emotional balance. Each colour variety carries additional specific properties, but overall, Calcite is considered a supportive crystal for clarity, insight, and transformation. It is often used in healing spaces to clear negativity, boost motivation, and support spiritual development.
