Soapstone, also known as Steatite, is a naturally occurring soft metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc, giving it its distinctive smooth, almost soapy feel. It varies in colour from pale grey and green to cream, brown and darker shades, depending on the minerals present. As a relatively soft stone, it is easy to carve and has been used for centuries to create sculptures, ornaments and practical household items.
Metaphysically, Soapstone is believed to encourage calmness, emotional balance and gentle communication. It is also associated with soothing energy, creativity and helping to release stress and tension.
